National Farm to School Resources
The National Farm to School Network provides a variety of farm to school resources on the policy page of this website including information on national and state farm to school legislation, how to incorporate farm to school into local wellness policies, federal financial resources for farm to school programs and technical assistance. The National Farm to School Network hosted a nationwide contest urging children to create a "Real Food is....." video and a Washington school won! Lincoln Elementary School in the Mount Vernon School District won the national contest with its entry Lincoln's Journey to Real Food.
Washington State Farm to School Resources
Washington Department of Agriculture's farm to school program began in 2008 with passage of the Local Farms Healthy Kids Act. The program is dedicated to fostering relationships between schools and agricultural producers in Washington State and to support expanding economic opportunities for farmers while educating students about the connections between food, farming, health, and the environment. The program provides information, inspiration, assistance, and policy solutions for those working to supply healthy Washington-grown food and related education to youth in our State. The WSDA Farm to School program recently launched a farm to school toolkit that hosts a myriad of information,recipes, nutrition facts and sample menus for serving Washington grown foods in schools.
Whatcom County has a terrific farm to school program hosted by the Whatcom Community Foundation.
Oregon Farm to School Resources
Ecotrust provides a terrific history of Oregon's Farm to School and School Garden Policy.
Upstream Public Health recently released a terrific Health Impact Assessment of Oregon's Farm to School and School Garden Legislation which evaluates the legislation's effects on Oregonian's health.
