  • In collaboration with the Good Food Coalition, advocated for establishment of a State Food Policy Council/Forum. (2010)
  • Successfully advocated for a tax-exemption for non-profit organizations that host farmers markets. (2010)
  • In collaboration with the Good Food Coalition, a broad group of organizations and individuals, successfully advocated for passage of the Local Farms Healthy Kids Act. (2008)
  • Successfully advocated for state funding for the Biologically Intensive Organic Agriculture program at WSU. (2006)
  • Successfully advocated for Washington State University to establish the nation’s first undergraduate degree in organic agriculture.(2006)
  • Successfully advocated for creation of the Small Farms Program at Washington State University (WSU), the first comprehensive program at WSU to specifically serve the research needs of Washington State’s small farmers
  • Successfully advocated for the creation of a Small Farm & Direct Marketing Program at the Washington State Department of Agriculture
  • Secured a competitive grant pool of $500,000 in federal funding for local marketing projects in communities across the state
  • In partnership with WSU’s Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources and others, secured more than $1 million in federal funds to develop the Biologically Intensive Agriculture and Organic Farming Program at Washington State University
  • Successfully advocated for policy changes within the state Department of Health to allow low-income moms in the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program to purchase organic food in grocery stores with WIC coupons
  • Played a key role in ensuring continued state funding for the WIC and Senior Farmers Markets Nutrition Program
  • Promoted public education and critical analysis of biotechnology in agriculture by hosting a forum on genetically-modified foods
  • Stopped commercialization of genetically-modified (“Roundup Ready”) wheat, in partnership with a national campaign
  • Temporarily halted the sale of genetically-modified alfalfa seed, in partnership with a national campaign
  • Built a diverse, statewide advocacy organization to promote sustainable agriculture policies and programs and small farms
